Scarlet and gold, the Marine Corps colours, run in bold diagonal stripes with gold flames rising at the toe. "United States Marines" is printed in a scarlet panel on the side, the USMC sergeant chevron and service years (1967 - 1978 in the sample) sit near the heel, the Marine Corps seal with eagle, globe and anchor is on the toe and the tongue reads Custom Name.
